INTERMEDIATE AND ADVANCED LEVEL
Explore Gran Canaria’s dense forests ravines, along sandy coasts near high gorges, and through mountain villages on an intimate photography retreat guided by Tomás, an internationally awarded photographer local to the island.
What makes this photography retreat especial?
We’ll sojourn in a beautiful traditional Canarian house in Agüimes, a quiet historic village away from the touristic resorts. Early mornings and evenings will be devoted to photographing the island in best possible light conditions, which will look especially beautiful after the autumn rains. Guided by Tomás, who was raised there, and knows the island like the back of his hand, you’ll learn both the technical and theoretical aspects of photography.
We will dedicate middays to select and process the photos, take a nap or venture into the village if you wish. Late evenings we will review the work together with a glass of wine followed by dinner and fun times. On Jan 5th, you'll watch the nation-wide parade, celebrating the Festival of the Three Magic Kings, the Kings' visit to Baby Jesus. Then head for more celebrations to continue capturing the festivities.
Required: A photo camera and your sense of adventure!

About your host Tomás
I was born and raised in Gran Canaria. I know this island like the back of my hand and I'm willing to share with others its wonderful photographic possibilities.
With more than 25 years experience as a photographer, my work has received awards in various prestigious contests and has been exhibited at different museums and galleries (view full list).
After three years of hard work, I published a photography book: “Gran Canaria. Letters from the Atlantic” in late 2018. My goal was to create a comprehensive visual guide that is both, poetic and descriptive.
At the moment I split my time working on my personal photo series and helping others improve their photography skills through my photo workshops.
Why Gran Canaria?
When you think of Gran Canaria, in the Canary Islands (Spain), imagine sun, the sea coming from everywhere and carnival music zigzagging along the streets at this time of the year. The contrasting views extend into its natural landscape. Black lava rocks dot smooth white beaches. Waves of golden sand dunes spread out under a sheet of blue sky. But that’s not all: dense forests, dramatic valleys, captivating geysers, charming villages. These contradictory surroundings offer fantastic settings to test out and refine your photo skills.
