What Pentaprisma is
Pentaprisma is a structured learning experience built around essential photographic principles, real situations, and ongoing feedback.
Workshops in Gran Canaria take place outdoors, using natural and urban settings that allow focused work without classroom constraints.
Instead of beginning with abstract theory, you start by photographing. The images you create become the basis for discussion, correction, and refinement.
You observe how deliberate adjustments in composition, light, or exposure transform the result. An image that feels unbalanced at first is gradually strengthened while you understand the reasoning behind each change.
If a photograph lacks depth, we address spatial relationships. If it feels disorganised, we work on structure and direction. Technical concepts are introduced only when they directly connect to what you are experiencing in that moment.
Each session is paced carefully, alternating visually engaging exercises with more analytical aspects so that learning remains active and grounded.
The aim is to build confidence and the ability to make informed photographic decisions independently.
This approach is part of the Pentaprisma method.
Who leads the workshops in Gran Canaria
Photography workshops in Gran Canaria are led by Tomás Correa, founder of Pentaprisma and a photographer based in Arucas.
His teaching approach prioritises attentive observation, practical experimentation, and deliberate choices. The island’s consistent light and open landscapes create an environment well suited to concentrated practice and steady progress.
As he explains:
“Learning photography means understanding your decisions. Working outdoors, in a place that encourages focus, makes that understanding much clearer.”
