About Pentaprisma
A structured approach to learning photography through practice.
Pentaprisma is an independent photography workshop project created to offer a clear, practical alternative to photo tours and purely academic courses.
Since 2013, hundreds of participants have taken part in Pentaprisma workshops in different cities.
What defines the Pentaprisma approach
Practice before theory
Outdoor learning in real environments
Feedback based on actual images
Clear structure without academic rigidity
Focus on fundamentals rather than tricks
Workshops are designed to help participants develop criteria and independence rather than temporary inspiration.
The origin of the project
Pentaprisma began in Berlin in 2013.
The first workshops were developed in an urban environment with strong seasonal changes and demanding light conditions. This context shaped the adaptable and practical structure that still defines the project.
Over time, Pentaprisma developed in multiple cities, applying the same structure in different environments.
While each city has its own character, the methodology remains consistent.
The meaning of the name
A prism separates light into components, revealing structure within complexity. Photography works in a similar way: several elements interact at once to shape an image.
The “penta” refers to the interplay of multiple factors that influence every photograph:
Exposure
Composition
Light
Perspective
Timing
Understanding how these elements relate to one another is central to the Pentaprisma method.
What participants gain
Workshops focus on building lasting understanding rather than quick results. They are designed to help participants:
Understand their decisions.
Recognise patterns in their work.
Develop confidence.
Build foundations for independent progress.
Across all cities, the objective remains the same: clarity through structured practice.
