One-to-one photography intensive in urban environment

Who this intensive is for

This intensive is well suited if you are looking for a broader and more structured approach to photography.

You want to understand the main foundations that allow you to progress on your own.

You prefer a complete and well-balanced learning experience rather than focusing on isolated issues.

You are interested in both technical understanding and creative decision-making.

You value individual guidance and enough time to explore different aspects of photography calmly.

How the intensive is prepared and conducted

The intensive is prepared in advance to make the most of the day.

Before meeting, you will be asked by email about your experience, interests, and what you would like to get out of the intensive. You may also be invited to share a small selection of your photographs. This allows the work to be fine-tuned before the session begins.

The day follows a structure that has proven to work very well, covering the most important aspects needed to move forward in photography. At the same time, because it is a one-to-one format, there is enough time to adapt the pace, emphasis, and depth to your specific needs.

Learning happens through practice. You photograph, observe the results, make adjustments, and gradually understand how different decisions affect the image. Concepts are introduced in context, always connected to what you are doing at that moment.

Location and working environment

The intensive takes place outdoors, in real and easily accessible environments.

Work usually begins in a calm public space, such as a park or natural area within the city. These environments allow for focused observation and a relaxed start. After the first part of the day, there is a break for lunch and rest. (Lunch is not included in the price)

In the second part of the day, the environment may change to a more urban setting nearby. This shift provides different visual situations and helps keep the rhythm of the day dynamic while adapting naturally to the work being done.

What is typically worked on

This intensive covers a broad range of essential concepts, including:

Learning to look at a subject from different perspectives and move beyond the first observation.

Core principles of composition to structure images and direct attention.

Learning to recognise different types of light and how to make better use of them.

Understanding exposure and how to control it manually.

Using exposure creatively to control what appears sharp or blurred in an image.

Learning when and why to use different lenses, such as wide-angle or telephoto.

Introduction to long exposure, when relevant, to explore movement and time.

A light introduction to editing as a way of selecting and reinforcing intention, not as software training.

This structure provides a solid and coherent base. Thanks to the one-to-one format and the time available, there is room to adapt and explore specific interests in more depth when needed.

This intensive is often described as the moment photography stops feeling random and begins to make sense as a coherent system.
